marseille, france. what can we really say bout marseille? madrid was crazy and barcelona was definitely a good time. why marseille and not paris you ask? well we're 2 asian guys in their 20s who dont really care for the eiffel tower or the louvre. if we wanted to peep them, then we're seriously content with just googling imaging them. instead, we decided to follow the french riviera path with our first stop: marseille.
before we even being to tell you the adventures we went through, keep this in mind. we TOTALLY forgot to book hostels for the 2 nights we were gonna spend in marseille. so while in barce, we booked 2 different hostels due to unavailability of rooms at the same hostel for 2 nights. we were kinda desperate so we booked, dipped from barce, and made our way to marseille
i (kevin) left the barce hostel early to catch my flight at 9am while marlon slept in for his flight at 3pm. the first hostel in marseille was literally IN THE BOONIES. as mentioned in the last post, it took a 45 minute bus ride to the train station to a 30 min train ride to another 20 minutes bus ride (fml). i finally arrived equipped with just my useless iphone, strictly used for directions. as i sat there waiting for marlon, i was contemplating this leg of the trip and kept asking myself, "why the FUCK would we book a hostel so far out of the city."
after 7 hours of waiting with nothing to do but explore a tiny ass town that consisted of a BP gas station a few little shops, marlon FINALLY arrived. getting to this hostel was a true test of our survival skills. after making it to the hostel, we both agreed, we are qualified to audition for that show "the amazing race" because it was that serious. oh by the way, this "hostel" was really a bed and breakfast in the countryside. 2 asian guys in the country at a bed and breakfast in france. no homo.
hey.. at least we had a pool lol. it was a well needed break but the next day came and we were ready to hit up our hostel in the city center. we still really didnt know what to expect from marseille, but when we got there, we were impressed by the city AND our top floor hostel with a balcony overlooking the city. kinda.
seeing the port and the mediterranean for the first time, mind = blown. the main port, viuex, was surrounded by restaurants, bars, and filled with a ton of boats. definitely seemed like a sick sopt at night, EXCEPT, marseille is super sketch at night. wouldnt wanna be walking around there after 11pm. regardless, it was legit.
dinner? the freshest seafood we've ever had in our lives. literally. peep the picture and video below:
marseille was legit and a relaxing break from partying, more partying, and hopping cities. i guess we should say we needed it? but not really..
next stop off the french riviera? nice, france and monte carlo, monaco. one epic life defining hand of blackjack, steak and lamb dinner, and seriously two of the SICKEST nights ever spent off the mediterranean coast. you can read all about that in our next update.
peace for now
